The guitar has a semi-flat 20" radius and 24 jumbo gold EVOJ frets, a metal alloy that sits between nickel and stainless steel in terms of its attributes. Also crafted from maple is the 5-piece Eastern hard rock maple neck, which is topped by a standard 25.5" scale birdseye maple fingerboard. Speaking of maple, the guitar's alder body and headstock are topped by 4A (AAAA Grade) flamed maple, giving the instrument a premium appearance that Greg approves of. According to the company, this chambering is added to help reduce the weight of the instrument, improve resonance and to roundup some of the excess brightness which is found on guitar's with a lot of maple wood. And maybe another thing is NEVER EVER base your decision on how many people will be the envy of your choice. And above all play as many of these guitars as you can before spending that much dough.
I think you need to evaluate what type of person you are and what your needs are.
These days I take pride in value, and I relish not having to spend top dollar to be happy. I am a different player and I got over pride a long time ago. If carvin and suhr made an identical guitar from wood from the same stack etc etc but you played your best and felt your best with the suhr then isnt the suhr better even if its identical? Some times the prestige of owning a high end exlusive piece of gear will boost your esteem and make you feel a pride of ownership that will push your abilities and motivate you to play your best. If it doesnt have suhr on the headstock the buyer may never be happy.Īnd thats not to say there isnt something real about that. In other words it doesnt matter if carvin does make comparable guitars to suhr.
I dont find anything about them particularly unique yet if your really that set on getting any one of those instruments only that instrument will do. When getting into that price bracket I have to ask myself is a suhr really $1000+ better than a comparable guitar from another brand? Or would it be me having to convince myself of it to justify the expense? I find them to be like a PRS, Les paul or vintage strat. And I dont feel their quality to be superlative when compared to a few other brands out there that cost considerably less. But I dont think they are competitively priced. Now dont confuse that with me thinking they are a poor instrument. I personally dont feel suhr guitars offer value. Nearly no one is going to agree with me on this.
